It is an important medicinal plant that is used in the treatment of various ailments. The botanical name for dill is Anethum Sowa which belongs to the Umbelliferae family. It is called Sowa or Indian dill which is used as a spice in food preparations.

ORIGIN AND SOURCE OF DILL

It is the native of south-western Asia and Mediterranean countries. And it is cultivated worldwide due to its medicinal and traditional uses. It is also cultivated in eastern and northern European countries. The height of this herb is 90cm and it has a slender, and glabrous stem. Dark green leaves are divided into 3-4 pinnate. Umbel flowers are yellow and the fruits of this herb are light brown. It is sown in spring seasons by using drills 10 inches apart on the soil. The size of the seeds is small, flat, and lighter than caraway.

TRADITIONAL VIEW:

According to Ayurveda, it is considered that digestion can be treated by its Deepan and Pachan activities and it also helps to increase the Agni (digestion)

Spam occurs due to the imbalance of Vata dosha. This imbalance leads to the contraction of muscles and produces pain. The use of dill produces warmth to the muscles which prevent and reduce the spasm by its antispasmodic properties.

According to Ayurveda, we can make y using dill. Take 2 cups of water and boil the water for 5-10 minutes and mash and add the dill seeds into the boiled water and wait until the color change into light yellowish color and at last filter the seeds from tea and consume the tea.
