WHAT IS YARROW

It is an important medicinal plant that is used in the treatment of various ailments. The botanical name for Yarrow is Achillea millefolium Linn which belongs to the Asteraceae family. It is also called a nosebleed plant.

ORIGIN AND SOURCE OF YARROW

It is originated from Asia, Europe, and North America. It is also widely distributed and cultivated in the temperate region. In India, it is found in the Himalayas from Kashmir to Kumaun up to an altitude of 1050m – 3600 m. It is also found in Europe, and United States.

Yarrow is a perennial and medium-sized aromatic plant that grows up to 1-2 foot height. The leaves are green to greyish-green in color. It is divided into linear lobes and pointed with a whitish tip. The heads of flowers are 3-5 cm in diameter which is white to pink in color. Usually, the flower appears from June to September.

PRECAUTIONS WHILE USING YARROW

Long term use may increase the photosensitivity of skin

The use of a yarrow may lower blood pressure in the blood. So, monitoring of blood pressure is required in patients who are taking the hypertensive drug
