Drug-Drug Interaction
Ethanol + Acarbose
More consumption of ethanol may alter the glycemic control and may produce disulfiram like reaction. It is contraindicated to use.
Pramlintide + Acarbose
A combination of Pramlintide and acarbose either increases the effect of others by pharmacodynamic synergism.
Aripiprazole + Acarbose
A combination of Aripiprazole and Acarbose may alter the blood glucose level. Kindly monitor the patient’s glucose level
Ciprofloxacin + Acarbose
Ciprofloxacin increases the effect of acarbose by pharmacodynamic synergism. Kindly monitor the patient’s glucose levels.
Digoxin + Acarbose
Acarbose decrease the effect of digoxin by an unspecified interaction mechanism. Kindly monitor the patient serum digoxin concentration closely.

Drug-Disease Interaction
Cirrhosis:
The use of Acarbose tablet to the patient who is having cirrhosis is contraindicated.
Renal dysfunction:
Acarbose tablets get precipitated by the patient who is having a renal impairment. Acarbose tablet should be given cautiously to the patient who is having renal impairment
Diabetic ketoacidosis:
Use of Acarbose tablet to the patient who is having diabetic ketoacidosis is contraindicated.
Intestinal disease:
The use of Acarbose inhibits the intestinal enzymes this is contraindicated to the patient who is having inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, intestinal obstruction.
Liver diseases:
The use of Acarbose may increase the liver enzyme serum transaminase level and also increase the risk of hyperbilirubinemia and jaundice. Closely monitor the patient liver enzyme level.
