Albavir Ped Tablet

Albavir Ped tablet contains Abacavir 60mg and Lamivudine 30mg. Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is an antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 infection. Albavir Ped tablet is a nucleoside analogue. Albavir Ped tablet works by acting on reverse transcriptase which is required for HIV active particles multiplication process thus reduces viral load of HIV in your body. Albavir Ped tablet is used in combination with other antiviral HIV medications.

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is used who are infected by HIV-1. Albavir Pedtablet is cautiously used in hepatic disorders and pregnant or lactating women.

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet helps control HIV infection. Albavir Ped tablet helps to decrease the amount of HIV virus in your body thus your immunity works better by reducing your chance of getting HIV complications like co-infections and other cancers. Albavir Ped tablet is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Albavir Ped tablet is not a cure for HIV infection, it improves immunity that results in longevity of life; thus, precautions are necessary while sexual intercourse, surgery etc.

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is indicated in the treatment of HIV infection that causes AIDS in humans. Albavir Ped tablet is used to boost the immunity of the affected hosts by reducing the viral load of the infected cells.

Albavir Ped tablet contains Abacavir 60mg and lamivudine 30mg. Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is a selective inhibitor of HIV – 1. Albavir Ped tablet are metabolized to their active forms and these active forms incorporate themselves into DNA of HIV molecule thus prevents transcription of HIV molecule resulting in the formation of inactive virions.

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. The active component of Albavir Ped tablet incorporates with DNA of HIV molecular structure thus further process of multiplication is inhibited. This decreases the rate of infection spread and controls the multiplication of viral load.

Absolute contraindications:

• if you are allergic to Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet
• if you have kidney impairment – if creatinine clearance <50ml/min
• if you have hepatic impairment – like Child Purge disease
• if you have HLA-B5701 allele that causes severe hypersensitivity to abacavir thus screening is advised.
• if you are breastfeeding or pregnant
• if <18 years of age

Relative contraindication:

• if you are diabetic
• if you have anemia or neutropenia
• if you have a bleeding disorder like haemophilia
• if you have a lipid disorder like hyperlipidemia
• if you have heart diseases like MI

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: hypersensitivity (fever, cough, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, and skin rash), alopecia, hyperlactataemia, arthralgia

Rare side effects that occur 1:1,000 patients: pancreatitis, cardiomyopathy, convulsions, rhabdomyolysis, neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, raise in AST and ALT levelsVery rare side effects that occur 1:10,000 patients: erythema multiform, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, lactic acidosis, pure red cell aplasia, paresthesia,

Is Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet safe during pregnancy?

This medication is not recommended in pregnancy unless pros outweigh the cons. Consult your physician.

Can Albavir Ped tablet be taken while breastfeeding?

There is no specific study to detail this. But in general HIV virions can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that antivirals can also pass via breastfeeding. Thus, consult your physician.

Can Albavir Ped tablet be taken while alcohol consumption?

Alcohol

Breast Feeding

The use of Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet during breastfeeding is not recommended as evidence shows less amount of the medication passes via breastfeeding to the baby that may cause adverse effects in newborn.

Kidney Problem

Inform your physician if you have hepatitis B or C or fatty liver or Childs Pugh disease. Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet may cause hepatomegaly with steatosis.

Liver Disease

If the renal creatine clearance is <50ml/min caution is required thus inform physician

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is taken orally with or without food.

Albavir Ped tablet should be taken at a specific time

Don’t chew or break the tablet.

Swallow Albavir Ped tablet as a whole.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of Albavir Ped than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing Albavir Ped tablet dose without approval would increase the viral load making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects. Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

• Lactic acidosis
• Changes in lipid and glucose metabolism
• Accumulation or Redistribution of body fat or immune reconstitution syndrome.
• Bone marrow disorders – anemia, eosinopenia
• Heart diseases or disorders – MI
• Any sign of infection – fever or lymph node enlargement
• Musculoskeletal problems - Osteonecrosis that causes joint stiffness and pain in larger joints like shoulder, hip, and knee
• Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet is taken at a specific time regularly with food. If Albavir Ped tablet is taken without food the efficiency of medicine is reduced significantly, thus it is ill-advised.

Drug-Drug Interaction

Risk of cytopenia increased– Ganciclovir

serum level is Increased – fluconazole, flucytosine, amphotericin B, Aceclofenac

serum level is Decreased - Hydrochlorothiazide , Isosorbide

Efficacy is decreased by - methadone

Metabolism is increased - phenytoin

Drug-Food Interaction

Albavir Ped (Abacavir (60mg) + Lamivudine (30mg)) tablet can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Albavir Ped tablet generally causes dizziness and instability thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in heart failure and stroke. Consult a physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress. Consult a physician before use

Symptoms of overdose is not well documented thus in case of an overdose contact your doctor immediately.

You can take the missed dosage if you notice within 12 hours if you take them once a day. If it is more than 12 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Always take with other antivirals and food Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
