Apigat 5mg tablet contains apixaban 5mg its a class of medication called factor Xa inhibitors which are meant for oral use only. It is an anticoagulant, used in the treatment of stroke prophylaxis with atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism by inhibiting the action of a certain natural substance that helps in the formation of blood clots in the body.

It causes irregular heart rhythm which results in poor blood flow and increases the risk of stroke. The common cause of atrial fibrillation is damage to the structure of the heart. Symptoms include palpitation, weakness, fatigue, lightheadedness, dizziness, chest pain, and shortness of breath.
Deep vein thrombosis:

Pulmonary embolism:

Mechanism of action of Apigat 5mg Tablet
Apixaban is a factor Xa inhibitor that produces its action by inhibiting the platelet activation and reversibly inhibiting the active site of factor Xa without a cofactor and it also inhibits the free and clot-bound factor Xa and the activity of prothrombinase and it indirectly inhibits the aggregation of platelet which is induced by thrombin. Blood coagulation depends upon the activation of factor X to factor Xa through the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways which play an important role in the blood coagulation cascade.

How to Take Apigat 5mg Tablet

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of carbamazepine will decrease the effect of apixaban by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism.
Defibrotide + Apixaban
The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of defibrotide increases the effect of apixaban by pharmacodynamic synergism.
Warfarin + Apixaban
The use of this drug is contraindicated because the combination of this drug increases the effect of anticoagulation.
Enoxaparin + Apixaban
Use alternative drugs because the combination of this drug increases the effect of anticoagulation.
Berotralstat + Apixaban
