Azalive 100mg Injection

Azalive 100mg Injection contains Azacitidine 100mg it’s an antineoplastic and antimetabolite medication. It is a DNA methylation inhibitor. It is not recommended in children and caution is used in geriatric cases. This medication is used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid monocytic leukaemia.

Azalive 100mg Injection is used in the treatment of hematological cancers. It is not used in children and geriatrics.

Azalive 100mg Injection is an antimetabolite and antineoplastic medication works by DNA methylation inhibitor used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukaemia in adults.

Azalive 100mg Injection is used in adults to treat:

• Myelodysplastic syndrome – subtypes:
  • Refractory anemia
  • Refractory anemia with ringed sideroblast
  • Refractory anemia with excess blasts
  • Refractory anemia with excess blasts in transformation
• Acute myelomonocytic leukemia

It can be used as an orphan drug in the case of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia

Azacitidine is a DNA methylation inhibitor medication. It is a pyrimidine analog of cytidine that inhibits DNA and RNA methyltransferase and has cytotoxicity effects that causes hematopoietic bone marrow suppression. It incorporates into DNA and RNA inhibiting the production of protein thus results in cell death. Thus, azacytidine inhibits the proliferation of abnormal cancer cells and induces apoptosis of these abnormal cancer cells.

Azalive 100mg injection causes DNA and RNA base pairs to incorporate with It which incorporates with DNA and RNA and inhibits methyltransferase and causes cytotoxic effects in the bone marrow causing suppression thus causes cell death. Thus, treats and cures abnormal cancer cells.

Absolute contraindication:

• if you are allergic to Azalive 100mg (Azacitidine 100mg) injection or its constituents
• if you are pregnant
• if you are breastfeeding

Relative contraindication:

• if you are vaccinating
• if you have a liver disorder
• if you have a blood disorder
• if you have a kidney disorder

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Lymphopenia, Leukopenia, Anemia, Thrombocytopenia, Neutropenia, Constipation, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, Pneumonia, Chest pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, joint pain, easy bruising and bleeding, rash, abdominal pain, fever, sore throat, epistaxis, weight loss, Hypokalemia

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: hypersensitivity reaction, Shaking, Liver failure, Large plum-coloured, raised painful patches on the skin with fever, pyoderma gangrenosum, pericarditis

Rare side effects that occur in 1:1,000 patients: dry cough, clubbing, tumor lysis syndrome.

Is Azalive 100mg (Azacitidine 100mg) injection safe during pregnancy?

No, taking Azalive 100mg injection during pregnancy is not recommended thus inform your physician if you are pregnant or plan to get pregnant

Can Azalive 100mg injection be taken while breastfeeding?

No, in general it is suggested that drugs and their metabolites can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that Azalive 100mg injection can also pass via breastfeeding.

Can Azalive 100mg injection be taken while alcohol consumption?

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing your dose without approval may cause adverse effects making the condition more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects. Please consult your physician

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding inform your physician as they are not advisable.

This injection is not recommended in children.

This injection has only been used in few patients 60 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage. Caution is applied due to severe renal and hepatotoxicity.

Azalive 100mg injection is given intravenously in the presence of a physician. 

Drug-Drug Interaction

Therapeutic efficacy is decreased by Cyanocobalamin

Severity of bleeding is increased by Icosapent ethyl

Metabolism is decreased by Melatonin

Severity of adverse effects is increased by Phenylalanine, Tretinoin

Serum concentration is decreased by St. John's Wort.

Drug-Food Interaction

This injection can be taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. It generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol. It is preferred to drive or operate heavy machinery with caution while taking this medication. Do not smoke while taking this medication.

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in QTc prolongation. Consult a physician before use
• Hematological disorders – used with caution in bleeding disorders like thrombosis. Consult a physician before use
• Bone disorders – used with caution in osteonecrosis. Consult a physician before use.
• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress and interstitial lung disorder. Consult a physician before use
