    Medical Description of Cipvir 200mg Tablet

    Cipvir contains its active substance called Favipiravir. Favipiravir is an antiretroviral medicine used in the treatment of influenza infection. It is an RNA polymerase inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of SARS COV-2 infection in adults with mild to moderate illness. Favipiravir is not recommended in children.


    Cipvir 200mg Tablet Uses

    Cipvir is used to treat adults and children above 18 years of age who are infected by viral infections like remerging influenza, ebola and covid-19 infection.


    Cipvir 200mg Tablet Benefits

    Cipvir is used to treat COVID-19 infection which is mild or moderate form. It is an RNA polymerase inhibitor & not recommended for use in children less than 18 years of age due to the increased risk of serious side effects.

    Mechanism of action of Cipvir 200mg Tablet

    Cipvir ( Favipiravir )  is an RNA polymerase inhibitor.  It inhibits the replication of the viral genome and acts as an RNA dependant RNA polymerase inhibitor. It also incorporates into RNA strands of virions thus prevents elongation and proliferation of virions. Favipiravir thus prevents the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection. Thus, inhibits the replication of the virus and treats illness.


    How Cipvir 200mg Tablet works

    Favipiravir is an RNA polymerase inhibitor. It inhibits the action of RNA proliferation and maturation of RNA of virions thereby prevents the formation of mature virus particles. Thus, controls the viral infection and improves immunity

    How to Take Cipvir 200mg Tablet

    Cipvir is taken orally with or without food.

    It must be taken at the same time once a day as prescribed by your physician.

    It must be taken as a whole do not crush the tablet

    After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing your dose of Favipiravir without approval may cause the amount of the virus to increase making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects.


    Use of Cipvir 200mg Tablet in Adult

    If you are pregnant or breastfeeding inform your physician as Favipiravir is not advisable.

    The recommended dosage for Cipvir is 1,800 mg on day 1 followed by 800mg per day for the next 14 days

    Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function is advised


    Use of Cipvir 200mg Tablet in children

     Not recommended in children


    Use of Cipvir 200mg Tablet in Elderly Patients

    This tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.


    Other general warnings

    Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

    Drug-Drug Interaction

    side effects are increased by Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Thiamine

    serum concentration is decreased by St. John's Wort, Phenytoin, Carbamazepine

    serum concentration is increased by Atenolol, Indomethacin, Folic acid

    Over Dose

    Contact your doctor, Pharmacist or Nurse immediately.


    Missed Dose

    If you take twice a day dosage, then the missed dosage if you notice within 6 hours. If it is more than 6 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose
