It produces its action by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase (COX-1) and (COX-2). Thus it inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins which is responsible for pain and inflammation. It also inhibits the aggregation and activation of neutrophil and chemotaxis, decreases the proinflammatory cytokine level, and alter the activity of lymphocyte.
Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic. It produces its action by acting on the hypothalamus to produce antipyresis. It also works peripherally to block the pain impulse generation and it also inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system.
