Dasanat 20mg Tablet

Dasanat 20mg Tablet contains Dasatinib 20mg used to treat chronic myelocytic leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia by inhibiting the activity of an abnormal protein that signals the cancer cells to multiply and it also helps to stop the growth of cancer cells. It is used in patients whose disease cannot be treated with other medications.

It is used in the treatment of the following conditions as chronic myelocytic leukemia and acute lymphocytic leukemia.

Chronic myeloid leukemia:

It is also called chronic myelogenous leukemia. This cancer occurs in the bone marrow and causes an increase in white blood cells. It occurs due to genetic changes in the stem cells which are produced by the bone marrow. Symptoms include easy bleeding, fever, weight loss, loss of appetite, night sweats, fatigue, and bone pain.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia:

It is a cancer of blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells. It usually occurs when a cell in bone marrow develops changes in its DNA. Symptoms include fever, joint pain, severe nosebleeds, pale skin, shortness of breath, fatigue, and bleeding from the gums.

The Dasanat 20mg Tablet is prescribed in the following indications as

• Chronic myeloid leukemia in children and adults
• Acute lymphoblastic leukemia in children and adults

Dasanat 20mg Tablet contains Dasatinib 20mg is an anti-ulcer medication, tyrosine kinase inhibitor that produces its effect by inhibiting BCR-ABL, PDGFR, and c-Kit kinase containing receptors present on abnormal cells thus the signaling process for angiogenesis and proliferation of abnormal cells is inhibited and it also minimizes the growth of abnormal cancer cells and terminates metastasis of tumors or cancers.

It is a chemotherapeutic drug used for the management of cancer

• Can I stop using the Dasanat 20mg Tablet immediately or do I have to slowly wean off the use?

You should not withdraw the medicine immediately, you should taper the dose to avoid rebound effects.

Alcohol

Dasanat 20mg Tablet is taken orally with or without food. You should not chew, cut or crush the tablet. Initially start with a low dose and slowly increase the dose once every week. Follow the direction mentioned within the label if you probably did not understand the appliance kindly ask your doctor or pharmacist to elucidate in detail. Do not withdraw the medicine when you feel better kindly complete the course of treatment to avoid reoccurrence.

• Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having a history of hepatic impairment, prolongation of QT interval
• The use of this medicine may cause a cardiac adverse reaction like cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, diastolic dysfunction, fatal myocardial infarction, and left ventricular dysfunction, and Tumor lysis syndrome
• The use of this medicine may increase the risk of developing fluid retention and pleural and pericardial effusion
• Embryofetal toxicity was reported
• The use of this medicine may cause bleeding, pulmonary arterial hypertension, and severe mucocutaneous dermatologic reaction
• The use of this medicine may cause bone marrow suppression includes neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and pancytopenia.

 

• You are not responding to the treatment
• You have experienced any allergic reaction like rashes and itching
• You have a receiving any concomitant medication and disease

Drug-Drug Interaction

Dihydroergotamine + Dasatinib

The use of this is contraindicated because the use of dasatinib will increase the effect of dihydroergotamine by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism.

Pimozide + Dasatinib

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of dasatinib increases the effect of pimozide by decreasing its metabolism and it also increases the risk of QT interval prolongation.

Ketoconazole + Dasatinib

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of ketoconazole will increase the effect of dasatinib by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism

Tipranavir + Dasatinib

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of tipranavir will increase the effect of dasatinib by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism

Carbamazepine + Dasatinib

Use alternative drugs because the use of carbamazepine will decrease the effect of dasatinib by affecting patient hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism.

Drug-Food Interaction

The use of grapefruit juice increases the blood level of dasatinib and also increases the risk of side effects such as dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, mood changes, insomnia, drowsiness, congestive heart failure, and QT prolongation.

Drug-Disease Interaction

Cardiovascular diseases

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of multiple kinase inhibitors causes arterial vascular occlusive events, peripheral arterial occlusive events, and ischemic cerebrovascular events.

Fluid retention

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having fluid retention because the use of multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitors may cause pericardial effusion, pleural effusion, pulmonary edema, and peripheral edema.

Bone marrow suppression

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients with bone marrow suppression because the use of multiple tyrosine kinase inhibitors may cause thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, and neutropenia.

Hepatic impairment

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Monitor the patient hepatic function during the treatment.

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor don’t overdose on the medicine. If you have taken an overdose of this medicine immediately meet the doctor and rush to the nearby hospital.

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor. Do not skip the medicine, if you forgot to take the medicine or missed the dose. It is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Don’t take the extra dose take the regular dose immediately. Don’t use the two-dose at one time (Double Dose).
