Doxt-SL Tablet contains Doxycycline (100mg) and Lactobacillus (5Billion spores) is a combination of two medicines used to treat various types of bacterial infections. The combination of this medicine produces its action by fighting against the microbes and preventing their growth and spread of the infection.

It is used in the treatment of Bacterial infections.

Bacterial infection occurs when bacteria enter your body and start multiplying which may cause tissue damage and make you sick. Mostly it is caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus organisms. The bacterial diseases are cholera, bacterial meningitis, tetanus, gonorrhea, pneumonia, and syphilis. Symptoms include fever, chills, sweats, inflamed lymph nodes, headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain

Usually, it starts producing its action as soon as you consume it. But it may take some days to kill the harmful bacteria.

• Can I take a Doxt-SL Tablet with food if it is causing a stomach upset?

Alcohol

The use of alcohol may produce harmful effects while you are receiving this treatment. Kindly consult with your doctor.

Driving or operating machinery

It is considered unsafe to drive while you are receiving this medicine it may affect your ability to drive. Kindly consult with your doctor.

Pregnancy

The use of this medicine is considered unsafe during pregnancy because it may produce harmful effects on the fetus. Kindly consult with your doctor

Breast Feeding

The tablet is taken orally with or without food. You should not chew, cut or crush the tablet. Initially start with a low dose and slowly increase the dose once every week. Follow the direction mentioned within the label if you probably did not understand the appliance kindly ask your doctor or pharmacist to elucidate in detail. Do not withdraw the medicine when you feel better kindly complete the course of treatment to avoid reoccurrence.

• The use of this medicine may cause intracranial hypertension, eosinophilia, and systemic symptoms and it also increases BUN secondary to antianabolic effects
• Avoid exposure to sunlight because the use of this medicine can cause photosensitivity
• A long–term use may cause fungal or bacterial superinfection
• Kindly reduce the dose if you have any renal impairment
• Kindly avoid using tetracycline during tooth development because it may lead to tooth enamel hypoplasia or permanent teeth discoloration
• The use of this medicine may cause clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea

• You have a history of gastrointestinal disease
• You are not responding to the treatment
• You have experienced any allergic reactions like rashes and itching

Drug-Drug Interaction

BCG vaccine live

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of medicine decreases the effect of the BCG vaccine live by pharmacodynamic antagonism

Aluminum hydroxide

Use alternative drugs because the use of aluminum hydroxide decreases the effect of Doxycycline by inhibiting the GI absorption

Atracurium

Use alternative drugs because the use of Doxycycline increases the effect of atracurium by pharmacodynamic synergism and it also increases the risk of developing respiratory depression

Ceftriaxone

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline decreases the effect of ceftriaxone by its pharmacodynamic antagonism

Estradiol

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline decreases the effect of estradiol by altering the intestinal flora and it also lowers the risk of contraceptive failure.

Methotrexate

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline increases the effect of methotrexate by decreasing its metabolism

Drug-Food Interaction

It is better to give this medicine with iron and calcium supplements, at least a 3 to 4-hour time gap is necessary.

Drug-Disease Interaction

Gastrointestinal diseases

It should be used with caution in patients with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis (infection to the inner lining of the colon). It will lead to the worsening of the patient’s health condition. If you are noticed severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc. immediately meet the doctor. Based on the patient's clinical condition, dose adjustment or replacement is needed.

Hepatotoxicity

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having a history of liver diseases because the use of tetracycline is associated with hepatotoxicity.

Renal dysfunction:

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having a history of renal diseases because the use of tetracycline increases the BUN with azotemia, hyperphosphatemia, and acidosis. 

Esophageal irritation

The use of tetracycline causes esophageal irritation in patients who have taken the medicine without a sufficient amount of fluid before bedtime. So it is advised to take the medicine with plenty of fluids

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor don’t overdose on the medicine. If you have taken an overdose on this medicine immediately meet the doctor and rush to the nearby hospital.

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor. Do not skip the medicine, if you forgot to take the medicine or missed the dose. It is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Don’t take the extra dose take the regular dose immediately. Don’t use the two-dose at one time (Double Dose).
