Doxytus 100mg Tablet contains Doxycycline 100mg and Lactobacillus 5Billion spores used to treat bacterial infections such as Cholera, Respiratory infections, Chlamydia infection, Brucellosis, Rickettsial infection, and Malaria prophylaxis. Doxycycline 100mg is an antibiotic that kills the bacteria and also helps to improve the symptoms and treat the infection. Mainly this bacterial infection targets the lungs, urinary tract, eyes. Lactobacillus 5Billion spores is an antidiarrheals/probiotic works by restoring the good bacteria that is killed due to the use of antibiotics. This combination of medicine helps to fight against the growth of microorganisms and it also prevents diarrhea which is associated with the use of antibiotics. This medicine is not used for common flu and cold symptoms that occur due to viral infections. This medicine is commonly prescribed for cough and colds caused by bacterial infections. Swallow the whole Tablet at once. Don’t break, chew, or crush the Tablet.

Drug-Drug Interaction

BCG vaccine live

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of medicine decreases the effect of the BCG vaccine live by pharmacodynamic antagonism

Aluminum hydroxide

Use alternative drugs because the use of aluminum hydroxide decreases the effect of Doxycycline by inhibiting the GI absorption

Atracurium

Use alternative drugs because the use of Doxycycline increases the effect of atracurium by pharmacodynamic synergism and it also increases the risk of developing respiratory depression

Ceftriaxone

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline decreases the effect of ceftriaxone by its pharmacodynamic antagonism

Estradiol

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline decreases the effect of estradiol by altering the intestinal flora and it also lowers the risk of contraceptive failure.

Methotrexate

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Doxycycline increases the effect of methotrexate by decreasing its metabolism

Drug-Food Interaction

It is better to give this medicine with iron and calcium supplements, at least a 3 to 4 hours time gap is necessary.

Gastrointestinal diseases

It should be used with caution in patients with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis (infection to the inner lining of the colon). It will lead to worsening the patient’s health condition. If you are noticed severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc. immediately meet the doctor. Based on the patient clinical condition, dose adjustment or replacement is needed.

Hepatotoxicity

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having a history of liver diseases because the use of tetracycline is associated with hepatotoxicity.

Renal dysfunction

Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having a history of renal diseases because the use of tetracycline increases the BUN with azotemia, hyperphosphatemia, and acidosis. 

Esophageal irritation

The use of tetracycline causes esophageal irritation in patients who have taken the medicine without a sufficient amount of fluid before bedtime. So it is advised to take the medicine with plenty of fluids
