Fapvir 200mg Tablet

Fapvir contains its active substance called Favipiravir. Favipiravir is an antiretroviral medicine used in the treatment of influenza infection. It is an RNA polymerase inhibitor. It is used in the treatment of SARS COV-2 infection in adults with mild to moderate illness. Favipiravir is not recommended in children.

Fapvir is used to treat adults and children above 18 years of age who are infected by viral infections like remerging influenza, ebola and covid-19 infection.

Fapvir is used to treat COVID-19 infection which is mild or moderate form. It is an RNA polymerase inhibitor & not recommended for use in children less than 18 years of age due to the increased risk of serious side effects.

Fapvir is indicated in case of viral infections like remerging influenza, ebola and covid-19 infection and recommended for ages above 18 years 

Fapvir ( Favipiravir )  is an RNA polymerase inhibitor.  It inhibits the replication of the viral genome and acts as an RNA dependant RNA polymerase inhibitor. It also incorporates into RNA strands of virions thus prevents elongation and proliferation of virions. Favipiravir thus prevents the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection. Thus, inhibits the replication of the virus and treats illness.

Favipiravir is an RNA polymerase inhibitor. It inhibits the action of RNA proliferation and maturation of RNA of virions thereby prevents the formation of mature virus particles. Thus, controls the viral infection and improves immunity

The use of Fapvir 200mg tablet is not recommended during pregnancy.

Breast Feeding

The use of Fapvir tablet during breastfeeding is not recommended.

Kidney Problem

Monitor kidney function before and during therapy, especially in patients with other kidney disorders

Liver Disease

Monitor liver function before and during therapy, especially in patients with other liver disorders

Fapvir is taken orally with or without food.

It must be taken at the same time once a day as prescribed by your physician.

It must be taken as a whole do not crush the tablet

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing your dose of Favipiravir without approval may cause the amount of the virus to increase making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding inform your physician as Favipiravir is not advisable.

The recommended dosage for Fapvir is 1,800 mg on day 1 followed by 800mg per day for the next 14 days

Regular monitoring of liver and kidney function is advised

 Not recommended in children

This tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Gout

It should be taken orally with or without food as prescribed dosage at a specific time regularly.

Drug-Drug Interaction

side effects are increased by Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Thiamine

serum concentration is decreased by St. John's Wort, Phenytoin, Carbamazepine

serum concentration is increased by Atenolol, Indomethacin, Folic acid

Drug-Food Interaction

Fapvir can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. It generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol. It is preferred to drive or operate heavy machinery with caution while using this medication

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in hypotension and MI. Consult a physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress. Consult a physician before use
• Blood disorders – used with caution in myelosuppression diseases. Consult a physician before use.
• Bone disorders – used with caution in gout. Consult a physician before use.

Contact your doctor, Pharmacist or Nurse immediately.

If you take twice a day dosage, then the missed dosage if you notice within 6 hours. If it is more than 6 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose
