    Jakavi 5mg Tablet contains Ruxolitinib 5mg used to treat myelofibrosis, polycythemia vera. It works by inhibiting the signaling process required for the multiplication of abnormal cancer cells. This medication is not recommended for children less than 12 years of age.

    It is used in the treatment of the following conditions chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis, and polycythemia vera.

    It is a type of bone marrow cancer that interferes with your body’s normal production of blood cells. This usually occurs when stem cells in your bone marrow develop some changes in the DNA. Symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, pain, easy bruising, bleeding, fever, bone pain, and night sweats

    Polycythemia vera

    It is a type of blood cancer this occurs when your bone marrow increases the production of red blood cells this makes your blood thicken and leads to blood clots.     Jakavi 5mg Tablet contains Ruxolitinib 5mg is an anti-cancer medication, a kinase inhibitor. It produces its action by inhibiting the Janus Associated Kinases that mediates the signaling process by STAT proteins and also inhibits kinase present in receptors thus signaling processes required for angiogenesis and proliferation of abnormal cells are inhibited. This shrinks the abnormal cells and minimizes metastasis thus treating and controlling cancers.

    Clarithromycin

    Use alternative drug because the use of clarithromycin increases the effect of ruxolitinib by affecting its hepatic and intestinal enzyme

    Deferiprone

    Use alternative drug because the combination of this medicine either increases the toxicity of the other by pharmacodynamic synergism

    Trastuzumab

    Use alternative drugs because the combination of this medicine either increases the toxicity of the other by immunosuppressive effects.

    Drug-Food Interaction

    Kindly avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while you are receiving this medicine because grapefruit juice increases the blood level of ruxolitinib which increases the risk for developing irregular heart rhythm. If you have experienced dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitation immediately consult with your doctor.

    Drug-Disease Interaction

    Infections

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the fatal and non-fatal infection may cause progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy and pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia have been reported.

    Lung toxicity

    Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are with a history of interstitial pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis because the use of these multikinase inhibitors may cause pulmonary toxicity.

    Cytopenias

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of this medicine may increase the risk of developing neutropenia and thrombocytopenia

    Thrombosis

    Therapy should be administered with caution in patients with increased risk of thrombosis including deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and arterial thrombosis has been observed in patients who are with rheumatoid arthritis
