Lamivir HBV Tablet

Lamivir HBV Tablet contains Lamivudine 100mg. Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet is an antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) – 1 infection. It is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Lamivir HBV tablet improves your immune system and reduces the risk of conditions associated with HIV infection. Lamivir HBV tablet is used in combination with other antivirals for efficiency. It is not used in cases of HBV.

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet is used to treat adults and children above 14kgs weight who are infected by HIV-1. It must be taken in combination with other anti-HIV medicines. Your doctor will discuss which combination of medicines is best for you.

Lamivir HBV Tablet used in the treatment for the following condition like 

Chronic hepatitis B virus infection:

It is a chronic liver infection that is caused by the hepatitis B virus. It usually occurs when our body cannot fight against the virus and it is a communicable disease. It is caused by sexual contact with an infected person, sharing needles, and it also spread from mother to child during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet is indicated in the treatment of HIV-1 infection that causes AIDS in humans. Lamivir HBV tablet is used with other antiviral medications to boost the immunity of the affected hosts. It is indicated in ages above 14Kgs of body weight.

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet is HIV-1 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Lamivudine is phosphorylated to its active forms Lamivir HBV tablet triphosphate that incorporated into the nucleotide and inhibits the action of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. Thus, the active HIV molecule becomes inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet inhibits the action of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase enzyme by incorporating themselves into the nucleotide sequence thus inhibits the action of the reverse transcriptase of HIV-1, thereby preventing the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection and improves immunity.

Absolute contraindications:

• if you are allergic to Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet
• if you have a liver disorder like hepatitis B or C or Child-Pugh disease
• if you have pancreatitis
• if you have renal diseases

Relative contraindication:

• if you are pregnant
• if you are diabetic

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Headache, insomnia, Cough, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramps, diarrhea, Rash, alopecia, Arthralgia, Fatigue, malaise, fever.

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: Neutropenia and anemia, thrombocytopenia, raise in AST, ALT levels

Rare side effects that occur 1:1000 patients: Pure red cell aplasia, Lactic acidosis, Pancreatitis, elevations in serum amylase, Hepatitis, Angioedema, Rhabdomyolysis

Very rare side effects that occur 1:10,000 patients: Peripheral neuropathy

Is Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet safe during pregnancy?

Yes, taking Lamivir HBV tablet during pregnancy has decreased the transmission of HIV from mother to fetus. Consult your physician.

Can Lamivir HBV tablet be taken while breastfeeding?

No, in general HIV virions can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that antivirals can also pass via breastfeeding.

Can Lamivir HBV tablet be taken while alcohol consumption?

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet must be taken with other antivirals as prescribed by the physician without fail. These medicines must be taken with or without food on a regular time basis.

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

• Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
• Musculoskeletal problems - Osteonecrosis that causes joint stiffness and pain in larger joints like shoulder, hip, and knee
• New onset diabetes mellitus or hyperglycemia – Monitor blood glucose and insulin levels. When needed add oral hypoglycemic and insulin
• Accumulation or Redistribution of body fat or
• immune reconstitution syndrome.
• Any sign of infection – fever or lymph node enlargement

Drug-Drug Interaction

Serum concentration decreased by Acetazolamide, Potassium citrate

Serum concentration increased by Aceclofenac, Acetaminophen, Alprazolam

severity of adverse effects is increased by Acyclovir, Amphotericin B, Baclofen

Drug-Food Interaction

Lamivir HBV (Lamivudine (100mg)) tablet can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Lamivir HBV tablet generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult physician before use
• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in heart failure and MI. Consult physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress. Consult physician before use
• Pancreases disorders – used with caution in pancreatitis. Consult physician before use

Contact your doctor, pharmacist or nurse immediately.

If you take once a day dosage, then the missed dosage if you notice within 12 hours. If it is more than 12 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. If you take twice a day dosage, then the missed dosage if you notice within 6 hours. If it is more than 6 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Always take with other antivirals Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
