    Medical Description of Macromycin Tablet

    Macromycin Tablet contain Spiramycin (3 Million IU) used to treat bacterial and parasitic infections such as severe bacterial infections as Bacterial infections, Toxoplasmosis during pregnancy, and Gonorrhoea. Spiramycin is an antibiotic used to treat a parasitic infection called Toxoplasmosis in pregnant women and it also helps to reduce the risk of transmission of toxoplasma infection from the mother to the fetus and it is also used to treat gonorrhea in patients who are allergic to penicillin. Mainly this bacterial infection targets the respiratory tract, buccal cavity, skin and skin structures, and sexually transmitted infections. This medicine is not used for common flu and cold symptoms that occur due to viral infections. This medicine is commonly prescribed for cough and colds caused by bacterial and parasitic infections.

    How to Take Macromycin Tablet

    The Tablet is taken orally with or without food. You should not chew, cut or crush the tablet. Initially start with a low dose and slowly increase the dose once every week.     Drug Interaction of Macromycin Tablet

    Drug-Drug Interaction

    BCG vaccine live

    The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of medicine decreases the effect of the BCG vaccine live by pharmacodynamic antagonism

    Cabergoline

    The use of this medicine is contraindicated because the use of Spiramycin may increase the effect of cabergoline by decreasing its metabolism.

    Chloroquine

    The use of this medicine is contraindicated because the use of chloroquine increases the toxicity of Spiramycin by QTc interval

    Lovastatin

    The use of Spiramycin will increase the effect of lovastatin by P-glycoprotein efflux transporter

    Aripiprazole

    Use alternative drugs because the use of Spiramycin will increase the effect of aripiprazole by affecting hepatic or intestinal enzyme metabolism

    Digoxin

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Spiramycin will increase the effect of digoxin by P-glycoprotein efflux transporter

    Drug-Food Interaction

    The use of grape juice along with Spiramycin may affect gastrointestinal absorption and it also inhibits the metabolism of Spiroomycin.

    Gastrointestinal diseases

    It should be used with caution in patients with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis (infection to the inner lining of the colon). It will lead to worsening the patient’s health condition. If you are noticed severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, blood in stools, etc. immediately inform the doctor. Based on the patient clinical condition, dose adjustment is needed.

    QT Prolongation

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Spiramycin may cause prolonged cardiac repolarization, QT interval in patients who are having a history of congenital long QT syndrome, bradyarrhythmias, proarrhythmic conditions such as uncorrected hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia

    Renal dysfunction

    Spiramycin should be administered with caution because the use of this medicine gets eliminated by the kidney. It is not necessary to adjust the dose in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment.

    Electrolyte imbalance

    It should be used with caution in patients with electrolyte imbalance or fluid retention. It leads to worsening patient health conditions. Based on the patient clinical condition, dose adjustment or replacement is needed.

    Cross-resistance

    This medicine doesn’t show effectiveness in the treatment of infections where resistance developed by causative bacteria due to the usage of erythromycin. It is called cross-resistance. It leads to worsening the patient health condition
