Nevimune tablet contains Nevirapine 200mg. Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet is an antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 infection. Nevimune tablet is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Nevirapine works by acting on reverse transcriptase which is required for HIV active particles multiplication process thus reduces viral load of HIV in your body. Nevimune tablet is used in combination with other antiviral HIV medications.

Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet is an antiviral belonging to the family of non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor which is used to treat HIV – 1 infection in paediatric and adults. Nevimune tablet is also used in treating pregnant women since it prevents maternal-fetal HIV transmission who have not taken any other antivirals before. Nevimune tablet must be taken in combination with a low dose of other anti-HIV medicines. Your doctor will discuss which combination of medicines is best for you.

Absolute contraindication:

• if you are allergic to Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet or its contents
• use of Nevimune tablet as a prophylactic to exposure in occupational diseases
• if you have severe liver problems like Child-Pugh class B or C or hepatic impairment
• if you are breastfeeding

Very common side effect that occurs in more than 1:10 patients: rash

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: granulocytopenia, hypersensitivity, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, hepatitis, fatigue, fever.

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, anaphylactic shock, anaemia, jaundice, Stevens Johnson Syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis, urticaria, angioedema, arthralgia, myalgia, decreased blood phosphorus, increased blood pressure

Rare side effects that occur 1:1000 patients: fulminant hepatitis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, decreased numbers of red blood cells or platelets, inflammation of the pancreas, decrease in skin sensations

Is Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet safe during pregnancy?

Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet causes severe and fatal fulminant hepatitis. The risk is higher during the first 6 weeks of treatment thus close monitoring is advised. It causes abnormal liver function values like elevation of GGT thus close monitoring is advised and after 2 months of treatment monitoring with blood work for signs of jaundice is advised every 2 weeks and after 3 months of treatment monthly blood work is advised.

Nevimune (Nevirapine (200mg)) tablet should not be taken alone and must be combined with at least 2 other antivirals.

Nevimune tablet is taken orally with food.

Don’t crush, break or chew Nevimune tablet.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of Nevimune than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing Nevimune tablet dose without approval would increase the viral load making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects. Drug-Food Interaction
