    Medical Description of Oxashil 50mg Injection

    Oxashil 50mg Injection contains Oxaliplatin 50mg it’s an antineoplastic and alkylating agent. It is a platinum analogue. This medication is used in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma. It is used as an orphan drug in treating chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, esophageal cancer, neoplasm of the stomach, neuroendocrine tumor, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, testicular cancer, ovarian cancer, pancreatic adenocarcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. It is always used in combination with 5-fluorouracil

    Oxashil 50mg Injection is used in the treatment of colorectal cancer at stage 3. It is not used in children. It is also used as an orphan drug in several cancers and leukemia. It is used only in adults.

    Mechanism of action of Oxashil 50mg Injection

    Oxaliplatin is an alkylating medication. It causes intra- and inter-strand crosslinks between DNA bases causing breaks in DNA strands thus apoptosis is induced resulting in cell death of abnormal DNA containing cancer cells.

    Oxashil 50mg Injection causes DNA base pairs to break inducing apoptosis of these abnormal cancer cells.

    Absolute contraindication:

    • if you are allergic to Oxashil 50mg (Oxaliplatin 50mg) Injection or its constituents
    • if you are pregnant

    Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: Edema, Neutropenia, Pharyngolaryngeal dysesthesia, Anaphylactic-like reaction, Pulmonary fibrosis, hypokalemia

    How to Take Oxashil 50mg Injection

    Oxashil 50mg Injection is used only in the presence of physician; Do not shake medicine containing vial while diluting or infusing; It is compatible with D5W; Do not use NS or chloride containing solutions; It is infused into 250-500ml of D5W and administered as slow infusion; Refrigerate unopened or opened 8°C

    After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing your dose without approval may cause adverse effects making the condition more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects.


    Use of Oxashil 50mg Injection in Adult

    If you are pregnant or breastfeeding inform your physician as they are not advisable.


    Use of Oxashil 50mg Injection in children

    This Injection is not recommended in children.


    Use of Oxashil 50mg Injection in Elderly Patients

    This injection has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

    • Allergic reactions - It can be mild hypersensitivity and angioedema to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

    General instructions

    Oxashil 50mg Injection is given intravenously in the presence of a physician. It must be kept at 8°C. Do not store after a single-use.

    Serum concentration increased by Choline, Thiamine

    Therapeutic efficacy is decreased by Cyanocobalamin

    Severity of bleeding is increased by Icosapent ethyl

    Severity of adverse effects is increased by Phenylalanine, Tretinoin

    This injection can be taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. It generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol. It is preferred to drive or operate heavy machinery with caution. Do not smoke while taking this medication. Do not use tobacco while taking this medication.

    Drug-Disease Interaction

    • Cardiac disorders – used with caution in QTc prolongation. Consult a physician before use
    • Hematological disorders – used with caution in bleeding disorders like thrombosis. Consult a physician before use
