    Medical Description of Pomalong 4mg Capsule

    Pomalong 4mg Capsule contains Pomalongomide 4mg used to treat multiple myeloma and Kaposi Sarcoma. It works by killing the abnormal cells by helping the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells. It is not recommended in children. It is used alone or in combination with other medicines. It is used when you have already used at least 4 treatments including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor.

    It is used in the treatment of the following conditions as Kaposi sarcoma and multiple myeloma.

    It is also called Kahler’s disease. It is a type of cancer that occurs in a plasma cell. In this condition, cancer gets accumulated in the bone marrow and affects healthy blood cells.     Kaposi’s sarcoma

    It is a type of cancer that forms in the lining of blood and lymph vessels.     • Multiple myeloma – treated with dexamethasone who were treated with lenalidomide and proteasome inhibitor
    • Kaposi sarcoma – occurring in HIV positive and HIV negative patients

     


    Mechanism of action of Pomalong 4mg Capsule

    Pomalong 4mg Capsule contains Pomalongomide 4mg is an anti-cancer medication, an immunomodulator (alters cytokine, T cell, and NK cell-mediated actions. It represses the IL-4 gene (thereby increasing NK cells and CD4+ T cells); it inhibits proliferation and activates apoptosis; it inhibits angiogenic growth receptor factors like VFGF, BFGF, and hepatocyte growth factor; it inhibits adhesion molecules and gap junction function thus preventing metastasis of malignant cells.

    Drug Interaction of Pomalong 4mg Capsule

    Drug-Drug Interaction

    Anakinra

    It is contraindicated to use this medicine because the use of anakinra increases the effect of Pomalongomide and the combination of this medicine increase the risk of developing an infection

    Deferiprone

    Use alternative drug because the combination of this medicine either increases the toxicity of the other by pharmacodynamic synergism

    Cholera vaccine

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Pomalongomide decreases the effect of cholera vaccine by immunosuppressive effects and it also increases the risk of developing an infection

    Lemborexant

    Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of lemborexant will increase the effect of the thalidomide by sedation

    Drug-Food Interaction

    Kindly avoid this medicine if you are a smoker because smoking reduces the blood level of Pomalongomide.

    Renal impairment

    Dosage adjustment is required in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment and patients who are on dialysis because this medicine is excreted by the kidney.

    Thromboembolic events

    The use of this medicine may cause thromboembolic events such as deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and arterial thrombosis are increased.

    Hematologic toxicities

    Kindly monitor the patient's hematologic condition because the use of this medicine is associated with hematological toxicities such as anemia, thrombocytopenia.
