Satrogyl-O Tablet

The Satrogyl-O Tablet contains Satranidazole 300mg and Ofloxacin 200mg used to treat diarrhea and dysentery in adults. Satranidazole 300mg is a Nitroimidazole derivative Antibacterial and Antiprotozoal drug which kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria. Ofloxacin 200mg is an antibiotic that helps to inhibit the growth of infection. The combination of this medicine helps to inhibit the growth of microorganism which is responsible for infections. Swallow the whole tablet at once. Don’t break, chew, or crush the tablet.

It is used in the treatment of the following conditions as bacterial infections such as diarrhea and dysentery

Diarrhea

By using antibiotics and anthelmintics may kill the good helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. It leads to worsening the patient's health conditions. This medicine is used to treat this condition.

Dysentery

• It is contraindicated to use this medicine in patients who are having a history of myasthenia gravis

• Can I take a Satrogyl-O Tablet if I have diabetes?

No, you should not take this medicine along with insulin and other diabetes medicines because it increases the risk of having low blood sugar. Kindly inform your doctor if you are taking any diabetic medication before initiating the treatment.

• Can I take Satrogyl-O Tablet along with ibuprofen?

Some patients develop seizures while taking ibuprofen along with quinolone. Do not take this medicine unless if it is prescribed by your doctor.

• Is the Satrogyl-O Tablet is effective?

Yes, it is considered effective when you have taken the medication as per the dose and duration advised by the doctor. If you stop the medicine without completing the course of treatment it may worsen the conditions

Alcohol

The use of alcohol may cause flushing, increased heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain, and low blood pressure while you are receiving this medication. Kindly consult with your doctor

Pregnancy

Satrogyl-O Tablet is taken orally with or without food. You should not chew, cut or crush the tablet. Initially start with a low dose and slowly increase the dose once every week. Do not withdraw the medicine when you feel better kindly complete the course of treatment to avoid reoccurrence.

• Kindly avoid using this medicine in absence of any suspected bacterial or parasitic infection because it increases the risk of developing drug-resistant bacteria and parasites
• Therapy should be administered with caution in patients who are having hepatic and renal impairment, and multiple sclerosis 
• Use this medicine with care in patients who are having a history of blood dyscrasia, agranulocytosis, leucopenia, and neutropenia
• Long-term use may cause superinfection
• You may develop fatal hypoglycemia in elderly people who are with or without diabetes
• Avoid sunlight because the use of this medicine can cause photosensitivity
• The use of this medicine may cause C difficile associated colitis

              Dialysis

• Using this medicine doesn’t show effects in patients on dialysis. This medicine should be scheduled before or after the dialysis procedure.

               Tendinitis and Tendon rupture (Muscle damage)

• This medicine causes tendinitis and tendon rupture, which mainly affects your shoulder, hands, ankles, or other joint parts of your body. And muscle damage also occurs usually on the tendons surrounding the muscles. It may experience pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles. It should be a risk in patients of more than 60 years of age or undergone a transplant of kidney, heart, or lung. If necessary, then needs dose adjustment or replacement

              Diarrhea

• This medicine kills the good helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. It leads to worsening the patient’s health condition. Better to take probiotics with this medicine to avoid diarrhea.

              Antibiotic resistance

• Finish the complete course of antibiotics even if you feel better. Otherwise, it will lead to Antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may be resistant to antibiotics)

• You have a history of gastrointestinal disease, seizures, or epilepsy
• You are not responding to the treatment
• You have experienced any allergic reaction like rashes and itching
• You have a Glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase

Drug-Drug Interaction

Dronabinol

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of Satranidazole increases the toxicity of dronabinol by inhibiting aldehyde dehydrogenase

Flibanserin

The use of this drug is contraindicated because the use of Satranidazole will increase the effect of flibanserin by affecting its hepatic and intestinal enzyme metabolism

Mebendazole

Use alternative drug because the use of mebendazole increase the toxicity of Satranidazole by increasing the risk of developing toxic epidermal necrolysis

Aluminum hydroxide

Use alternative drugs because the use of aluminum hydroxide decreases the effect of Ofloxacin by inhibiting the GI absorption

Escitalopram

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of escitalopram increase the toxicity of Ofloxacin by QTc interval

Estradiol

Therapy should be administered with caution because the use of Ofloxacin decreases the effect of estradiol by altering the intestinal flora and it also lowers the risk of contraceptive failure.

Warfarin

 Use alternative drugs because the use of Satranidazole increases the effect of warfarin by decreasing its metabolism

Neurologic toxicity

Using this medicine should be cautious in patients with neurological toxicity (convulsions and peripheral neuropathy) leads to develop numbness, tingling, or burning sensation of hands and feet like neurological effects leads to worsening the patient health condition.

Blood Dyscrasias

Using this medicine should be cautious in patients with blood Dyscrasias (low blood count) leads to a decrease in the blood cell count tends to develop leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and bone marrow aplasia. It leads to worsening the patient's health condition.

Kidney diseases

It should be used with caution in a patient with renal impairment or kidney disease. Then it develops the risk of kidney damage. Inform your doctor and then take. Based on the patient's health condition, dose adjustment or replacement of medicine is needed.

Liver diseases

It should be used with caution in a patient with hepatic impairment or liver disease. Then it develops a risk of liver damage. Inform your doctor and then take. Based on the patient's health condition, dose adjustment or replacement of medicine is needed.

Central nervous system disorders

Using this medicine is needs caution in patients with seizures, other central nervous system abnormalities, or fits. It causes hallucinations, anxiety, confusion, and restlessness, etc. Inform the doctor, then will do dose adjustment or replacement is needed. If necessary to take this medicine with seizure medications.

Colitis

This medicine kills the good helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and causes diarrhea. This drug should be used caution in patients with gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis (swelling of the colon inner lining). It leads to worsening the patient’s health condition.

QT prolongation

This drug should be used with caution in patients with heart-related problems such as irregular heart rate, in which this drug alters the heart rate.

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor don’t overdose on the medicine. If you have taken an overdose of this medicine immediately meet the doctor and rush to the nearby hospital.

Take the medicine as directed by the doctor. Do not skip the medicine, if you forgot to take the medicine or missed the dose. It is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Don’t take the extra dose take the regular dose immediately. Don’t use the two-dose at one time (Double Dose).
