Stadine capsule contains Stavudine 30mg. Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule is an antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 infection. Stadine capsule is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Stadine capsule works by acting on reverse transcriptase which is required for HIV active particles multiplication process thus reduces viral load of HIV in your body. Stadine capsule is used in combination with other antiviral HIV medications.

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule is used to treat adults, neonates and children who are infected by HIV. Stadine capsule must be taken in combination with other anti-HIV medicines. Your doctor will discuss which combination of medicines is best for you.

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule is used with other anti-HIV medication to help control HIV infection. Stadine capsule helps to decrease the amount of HIV virus in your body thus your immunity works better by reducing your chance of getting HIV complications like co-infections and other cancers. Stavudine is a dideoxynucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Stavudine is not a cure for HIV infection, it improves immunity that results in longevity of life; thus, precautions are necessary while sexual intercourse, surgery etc.

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule is indicated in the treatment of HIV infection that causes AIDS in humans. Stadine capsule is used with other antiviral medications to boost the immunity of the affected hosts by reducing the viral load of the infected cells. Stavudine is indicated in neonates, children and adult.

Stadine capsule contains Stavudine 30mg. Stavudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor is phosphorylated into stavudine -5- triphosphate. Stavudine-5-triphosphate battle with deoxythymidine triphosphate and incorporate themselves into the DNA of HIV molecular structure. After they incorporate within the DNA of HIV molecule the further process such as transcription, reverse transcriptase enzyme is inhibited. Thus, the active HIV molecule becomes inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Neutropenia, Thrombocytopenia, increase in hepatic transaminases and bilirubin, Myalgia, Back pain, Weakness

Uncommon side effects that occur in 1:100 patients: Headache, Chills/fever, Malaise, Insomnia, Anxiety, Depression, Pain, Rash, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Pancreatitis, Abdominal pain, Peripheral neuropathy

Rare side effects that occur 1:1,000 patients: pancreatitis, cardiomyopathy, convulsions, rhabdomyolysis, lipodystrophy, lactic acidosis, hepatitis

Very rare side effects that occur 1:10,000 patients: erythema multiform, Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, lactic acidosis, pure red cell aplasia, hepatic failure

Is Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule safe during pregnancy?

Can Stadine capsule be taken while breastfeeding?

There is no specific study to detail this. But in general HIV virions can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that antivirals can also pass via breastfeeding. Thus, consult your physician.

Stadine capsule should be taken at a specific time

Don’t chew or break the tablet.

Swallow Stadine capsule as whole.

Stadine capsule must be taken with other antivirals.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of Stadine medicine than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing Stadine capsule dose without approval would increase the viral load making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects. The recommended dose of Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule

• 30 kgs to 60 kgs – 30 mg taken twice a day orally
• >60 kgs – 30mg taken twice a day orally

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule usage is provided as follows:

•  14 days to 30 kgs – 1mg/kg twice a day orally
•  More than 30 kgs dosage provided is as an adult

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

• Diabetic
• Renal disorders
• Pancreatitis
• Any sign of infection – fever or lymph node enlargement
• Musculoskeletal problems - Osteonecrosis that causes joint stiffness and pain in larger joints like shoulder, hip, and knee
• Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
• Accumulation or Redistribution of body fat or
• immune reconstitution syndrome.

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule is taken with other antivirals orally at prescribed dosage at specific time regularly with food. If Stavudine is taken separately the efficiency of drug is reduced significantly, thus it is ill advised.

Drug-Drug Interaction

Serum concentration decreased by Methadone

Serum concentration increased by Amoxicillin, Ceftriaxone, Diclofenac

severity of adverse effects is increased by Didanosine, Hydroxyurea, Atorvastatin

Drug-Food Interaction

Stadine (Stavudine (30mg)) capsule can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Stadine capsule generally causes dizziness and instability thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult physician before use
• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in heart failure and MI. Consult physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress. Consult physician before use
• Pancreases disorders – used with caution in pancreatitis. Consult physician before use
• Neurological disorders – used with caution in neurotoxicity. Consult physician before use.

Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, palpitations etc. Contact your doctor immediately.

You can take the missed dosage if you notice within 6 hours if you take them twice a day. If it is more than 6 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Always take with other antivirals and food Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
