Tafero EM 10mg Tablet

Tafero-EM contains Emtricitabine 200mg and Tenofovir Alafenamide 10mg. Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet is an antiviral medication. Tafero-EM tablet contains two nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. 

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet contains two nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor used in the treatment HIV-1 infection. Tafero-EM tablet can be safely used in children above 35Kgs and adults. Tafero-EM tablet is not recommended as pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV-1 infection.

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet controls HIV infection. Tafero-EM tablet helps to decrease the amount of HIV virus in your body thus your immunity works better by reducing your chance of getting HIV complications like co-infections and other cancers. Tafero-EM tablet is not a cure for HIV infection, it improves immunity that results in longevity of life; thus, precautions are necessary while sexual intercourse, surgery, etc. Tafero-EM tablet is safely used in children above 35Kgs and in adults.

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet is indicated in case of HIV infection that causes AIDS in humans. Tafero-EM tablet is indicated in children above 35kgs and adults. Patients are indicated to check for acute hepatitis B infection as the use of Tafero-EM tablet may flare up or worsen hepatitis condition.

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Tenofovir Alafenamide present in Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet enters hepatocytes where it is converted to tenofovir by hydrolysis. Hepatocyte tenofovir is then phosphorylated into tenofovir diphosphate that incorporates themselves into the DNA strand thus stops the replication of viral particles. Emtricitabine present in Tafero-EM tablet is an analogue of cytidine is phosphorylated to its active form. Emtricitabine 5 triphosphate inhibits the activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and incorporates themselves into the DNA thus results in the termination of the replication process. Thus, the active HIV molecules become inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor which has the active substance called Tenofovir Alafenamide and Emtricibine incorporates themselves into DNA strand and thus replication process of viral particle is terminated. Thus, the active HIV molecule becomes inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Very common side effects that occur in more than 1:10 patients: Headache

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, Dizziness, Stomach pain, arthralgia, fatigue

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, Hives, Increased level of ALT in the blood, exacerbation of hepatitis B

Rare side effects that occur 1:1,000 patients: lactic acidosis, immune reconstitution syndrome, inflammatory hepatitis, renal impairment

Is Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet safe during pregnancy?

This medication is not recommended in pregnancy unless pros outweigh the cons. Consult your physician.

Can Tafero-EM tablet be taken while breastfeeding?

There is no specific study to detail this. But in general HIV virions can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that antivirals can also pass via breastfeeding. Thus, consult your physician.

Kidney Problem

Inform your physician if you have compromised kidney function as Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet may cause renal disorders that results in end stage kidney failure

Liver Disease

Inform your physician if you have hepatitis B or C

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet is taken orally with or without food.

Tafero-EM tablet should be taken at a specific time every day.

Don’t chew or break the tablet.

Swallow Tafero-EM tablet as whole.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this medicine than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. The recommended age for the use of Tafero-EM tablet in children who weigh above 35 kgs.

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

Pre-screening for hepatitis B is recommended as this combination may worsen the infection

Drug-Food Interaction

Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Tafero-EM tablet generally causes dizziness and instability thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, palpitations etc. Contact your doctor immediately.

If you are treated with Tafero-EM (Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (10mg)) tablet for HIV infection you can take the missed dose if you notice within 12 hours if you take them once a day. If it is more than 12 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual.

 Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
