Taffic Tablet

Taffic Tablet contains Bictegravir 50mg, Emtricitabine 200mg and Tenofovir Alafenamide 25mg. This combination is an antiviral medicine combination used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) – 1 infection. Bictegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor. Emtricitabine and Tenofovir Alafenamide is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It works by reducing the viral load of HIV in your body. This tablet combination improves your immune system and reduces the risk of conditions associated with HIV infection. 

Taffic tablet is used to treat adults and children above the weight class 25kg only who are infected by HIV-1.

Taffic tablet is used to help control HIV infection & helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body thus your immunity works better by reducing your chance of getting HIV complications like co-infections and other cancers. It is not a cure for HIV infection; it improves immunity that results in longevity of life. It is recommended for use in children from 25kgs and in adults.

Taffic tablet is indicated in the treatment of HIV-1 infection that causes AIDS in humans. These tablets boost the immunity of the affected hosts. Taffic tablet is indicated in adults and children above 25kgs.

Taffic Tablet contains Bictegravir 50mg, Emtricitabine 200mg and Tenofovir Alafenamide 25mg. Bictegravir inhibits strand transfer activity of integrase in DNA thus blocks replication of HV-1. Emtricitabine is an analogue of cytidine that is phosphorylated to its active form Emtricibine 5 triphosphate that inhibits the activity of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase and incorporates themselves into the DNA thus results in termination of the replication process. Tenofovir Alafenamide enters hepatocytes where it is converted to tenofovir by hydrolysis. Hepatocyte tenofovir is then phosphorylated into tenofovir-diphosphate that incorporates themselves into the DNA strand thus stops the replication of viral particles. Thus, the active HIV molecules become inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Taffic tablet is an integrase inhibitor and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Bictegravir inhibits the transfer of integrase in DNA and Emtricitabine and tenofovir incorporates themselves into the DNA thus stops the replication of viral particles. Thereby preventing the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection.

Absolute contraindication:

• if you are allergic to Taffic (Bictegravir (50mg) + Emtricitabine (200mg) + Tenofovir Alafenamide (25mg)) tablet and its contents
• if you are pregnant
• if you are diabetic

Relative contraindication:

• if you have a liver disorder like hepatitis B or C or Child-Pugh disease
• if you have blood disorders
• if you have renal diseases

Very common side effects that occur in more than 1:10 patients: Diarrhea 

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Nausea, Flatulence, Abdominal pain, Anemia, Allergic reaction, Impaired concentration, Lipodystrophy, Metabolic acidosis, Rash, Leukopenia, Thrombocytopenia, Weakness

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: lactic acidosis, hepatitis B flare up

Taffic tablet should not be crushed or chewed it must be swallowed.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of this medicine than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing tablet dose without approval may cause the amount of the virus to increase making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding inform your physician as they are not advisable.

Taffic tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

• New-onset diabetes mellitus or hyperglycemia – Monitor blood glucose and insulin levels. When needed add oral hypoglycemic and insulin
• Blood disorders Hemophilia, hemolytic anemia
• Skin reactions - It can be mild to severe like Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
• Musculoskeletal problems - Osteonecrosis that causes joint stiffness and pain in larger joints like shoulder, hip, and knee
• Accumulation or Redistribution of body fat or
• immune reconstitution syndrome.
• Any sign of infection – fever or lymph node enlargement
• Lactose intolerance or galactose malabsorption

Taffic tablet is an antiviral taken orally as a prescribed dosage at a specific time regularly with food.

Drug-Drug Interaction

Side effects are increased by aceclofenac, acyclovir, amikacin

serum concentration is decreased by Acetazolamide, carbamazepine

serum concentration is increased by Carvedilol, clomifene, acetaminophen

Drug-Food Interaction

Taffic tablet can be safely taken with food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. These tablets generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult physician before use

• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in prolonged QT syndrome. Consult physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress and asthma. Consult physician before use
• Blood disorders – used with caution in hemolytic anemia and hemophilia. Consult physician before use

Contact your doctor, pharmacist or nurse immediately.

In general, if you take once a day dosage, the missed single dose of Taffic tablet can be taken within the next 12 hrs, you can take it. If it is more than 12 hrs, skip the dose and take the next dose at the recommended time. Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
