Telura Tablet

Telura tablet contains Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg, Lamivudine 300mg, and Efavirenz 600mg. Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is an antiretroviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-1 infection. Telura tablet in which Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Telura tablet is used adults and adolescence above 35Kgs.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is used to treat adults and adolescence above 35Kgs of weight who are infected by HIV. It is used in caution with hepatitis B.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body thus your immunity works better by reducing your chance of getting HIV complications like co-infections and other cancers. It is not a cure for HIV infection, it improves immunity that results in longevity of life; thus, precautions are necessary while sexual intercourse, surgery, etc. Telura tablet is safely used in adults and adolescence above 35kgs.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is indicated in the treatment of HIV infection that causes AIDS in humans. Telura tablet is used to boost the immunity of the affected hosts by reducing the viral load of the infected cells. Prior to administration of Telura tablet screening for hepatitis B infection must be done. Telura tablet is indicated in weight above 35 Kgs.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is which Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and Lamivudine are nucleoside analogue that acts as a reverse transcriptase inhibitor and Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is an analogue of adenosine 5-monophosphate which is converted to tenofovir after hydrolysis after which tenofovir inhibits HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. Tenofovir competes with AMP as a substrate and competes to incorporate themselves into the DNA strand thus stops the replication of viral particles.  Lamivudine is an analogue that is phosphorylated to its active forms lamivudine triphosphate that is incorporated into the nucleotide and inhibits the action of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase that blocks RNA and DNA dependant polymerase in HIV replication. Thus, the active HIV molecule becomes inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet has two nucleoside analogue that acts as reverse transcriptase inhibitor and one non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. The active substance of tenofovir and lamivudine competes with AMP and incorporates themselves into DNA strand and thus replication process of viral particle is terminated. The active substance of Efavirenz DNA and RNA dependant polymerase blocks HIV replication. Thus, the active HIV molecule becomes inactive and further reproduction and multiplication process is stopped.

Absolute contraindication:

• if you are allergic to Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet and its contents
• if <18 years of age
• if you are breastfeeding
• if you are pregnant

Relative contraindication:

• if you have liver disease like hepatitis B or C or hepatomegaly with steatosis
• if you have kidney impairment
• if you have any heart disease

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: Headache, insomnia, Cough, Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramps, diarrhoea, Rash, alopecia, Arthralgia, Fatigue, malaise, fever, hypophosphataemia, asthenia, Neutropenia, anaemia, thrombocytopenia

Uncommon side effects that occur 1:100 patients: Neutropenia and anaemia, thrombocytopenia, hypokalaemia, proximal renal tubulopathy, elevation in AST and ALT levels 

Rare side effects that occur 1:1,000 patients: Pancreatitis, Hepatitis, Angioedema, hepatic steatosis, osteomalacia, acute renal failure, renal failure, acute tubular necrosis, nephritis 2, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus,  

Very rare side effects that occur 1:10,000 patients: Pure red cell aplasia, Lactic acidosis, Peripheral neuropathy, Rhabdomyolysis

Is Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet safe during pregnancy?

This medication is used with caution in pregnancy when pros outweigh the cons. Consult your physician.

Can Telura tablet be taken while breastfeeding?

There is no specific study to detail this. But in general HIV virions can pass via breastfeeding thus it is suspected that antiretrovirals can also pass via breastfeeding. Thus, consult your physician.

Can Telura tablet be taken while alcohol consumption?

The interaction is unknown but this medication causes dizziness. Thus, consult your physician.

Can I take drive or operate heavy machineries while on Telura tablet?

This medication causes dizziness and instability thus caution is used while driving or operating machineries.

Can Telura tablet be taken in case of hepatitis B?

No, Telura tablet must not be taken when diagnosed with hepatitis B as this medication may cause failure

Alcohol

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol. For further queries, consult your physician.

Pregnancy

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is cautiously used during pregnancy as it may cause some side effects on the fetus. Thus, consult your physician.

Breast Feeding

The use of Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet during breastfeeding is not recommended as evidence shows less amount of the medication passes via breastfeeding to the baby that may cause an adverse effect in newborn.

Kidney Problem

Inform your physician if you have compromised kidney function as Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet may cause renal disorders that results in end stage kidney failure.

Liver Disease

Inform your physician if you have hepatitis B or C

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is taken orally without food.

Telura tablet should be taken at a specific time every day.

Telura tablet is best taken at bedtime.

Don’t chew or break the tablet.

Swallow Telura tablet as whole.

After therapy has been initiated, do not take more or less of Telura tablet drug than prescribed or stop taking it without your physicians’ approval. Skipping or changing Telura tablet dose without approval would increase the viral load making the infection more difficult to treat, or worsen side effects. Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is not recommended for children below 35 Kgs

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet has only been used in few patients 65 years or older. Dosage and usage are similar to adults. Discuss with your physician before usage.

• Blood disorders – neutropenia, anemia etc.
• Bone density loss
• Pancreatitis
• Lactic acidosis
• Hepatic decompensation
• Musculoskeletal problems - Osteonecrosis that causes joint stiffness and pain in larger joints like shoulder, hip, and knee
• Accumulation or Redistribution of body fat
• immune reconstitution syndrome.

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet is taken at specific time regularly. Telura tablet is taken best at bedtime to avoid the experience of side effects.  

Drug-Drug Interaction

side effects are increased by Amphotericin B, acyclovir, amikacin

serum concentration is decreased by Acetazolamide, carbamazepine, Potassium citrate

serum concentration is increased by Carvedilol, clomifene, acetaminophen, Aceclofenac

Drug-Food Interaction

Telura (Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) + Efavirenz (600mg)) tablet can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Telura tablet generally causes dizziness and instability thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.

Drug-Disease Interaction

• Liver disorders – used with caution in severe liver diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Kidney disorders – used with caution in severe kidney diseases. Consult a physician before use
• Cardiac disorders – used with caution in heart failure and MI. Consult a physician before use
• Respiratory disorders – used with caution in respiratory distress. Consult a physician before use
• Pancreases disorders – used with caution in pancreatitis. Consult a physician before use

Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, palpitations, etc. Contact your doctor immediately.

You can take the missed dosage if you notice within 12 hours if you take them once a day. If it is more than 12 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.

Do not use this medication while pregnant and lactation period.

Don’t use this medication with liver disease and kidney disease.

This medication doesn’t stop the spread of HIV infection from person to person thus use caution and precaution while sexual contact, needle injury etc.
