Mechanism of action of Virataz 300mg Capsule

Virataz (Atazanavir (300mg)) Capsule is an HIV protease inhibitor. Protease inhibitors are used as a part of highly active antiviral therapy (HAART) in HIV-infected patients. Virataz Capsule prevents HIV replication by binding to this specific enzyme thus selectively inhibits the cleavage of HIV-1 encoded Gag-Pol polyproteins in cells affected by the virus, thereby preventing the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection. Virataz Capsule is a structural analogue of the transition state that binds to different sites on the enzyme namely the active site and the surface of one of the flexible flaps in the protease dimer during which the bond between phenylalanine and proline is broken.
