Medical Description of Virataz R Tablet
Virataz R Tablet contains Atazanavir 300mg and Ritonavir 100mg. Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet is a combination antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Virataz R tablet acts as a protease inhibitor and CYP3A inhibitor. Virataz R tablet works by reducing the viral load of HIV in your body. Virataz R tablet improves your immune system and reduces the risk of conditions associated with HIV infection. It is used in children above 6 years old and in adults.
Virataz R Tablet Uses
Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet is used to treat adults and children above 6 years of age or above 35Kgs who are infected by HIV. Virataz R tablet contains Atazanavir which is a protease inhibitor that interferes with the multiplication of HIV particles and Ritonavir is also a potent CYP3A inhibitor. Thus, Virataz R tablet control and treat HIV-1 infection.

Mechanism of action of Virataz R Tablet
Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet is a HIV protease inhibitor. Protease inhibitors are used as a part of highly active antiviral therapy (HAART) in HIV-infected patients. Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet prevents HIV replication by binding to this specific enzyme thus selectively inhibits the cleavage of HIV-1 encoded Gag-Pol polyproteins in cells affected by the virus, thereby preventing the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection.

Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet is a HIV protease inhibitor. Virataz R tablet binds to different sites on the enzyme namely the active site and the surface of one of the flexible flaps in the protease dimer on HIV-1. Virataz R prevents HIV replication by binding to this specific enzyme thus selectively inhibits the cleavage of HIV-1 encoded Gag-Pol polyproteins in cells affected by the virus, thereby preventing the formation of mature virus particles into infectious virions that spreads the infection.

Common side effects that occur 1:10 patients: headache, ocular icterus, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, dyspepsia, jaundice, rash, fatigue, flushing, dizziness, cough, tingling sensation or numbness in the hands, feet or around the lips and mouth, bad taste in the mouth, itching, rash, joint pain and back pain, anxiety, fever, seizure, weight loss.

How to Take Virataz R Tablet

Over Dose
Overdosing may cause breathing difficulty, dizziness, chest palpitations and numbness of extremities. The dosage considered at overdose in Virataz R is 1200mg taken once and 1500mg taken twice a day respectively. It causes renal failure with eosinophilia and heart block due to an increase in PR interval. Contact your doctor immediately.
Missed Dose
You can take the missed dosage if you notice within 12 hours. Always take Virataz R (Atazanavir (300mg) + Ritonavir (100mg)) tablet with food. If it is more than 12 hours, then skip the dosage and take the next doses as usual. Don’t take a double dose for a forgotten dose.
