Zidovir syrup contains Zidovudine 50mg/5ml. Zidovir (Zidovudine (50mg/5ml)) syrup is an antiviral medicine used in the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) – 1 infection. It is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Zidovudine works by reducing the viral load of HIV in your body. Zidovir syrup improves your immune system and reduces the risk of conditions associated with HIV infection. Zidovir syrup is used in combination with other antiretrovirals for efficiency. Zidovir syrup is used in children above 1 month of age or in weight more than 4 kgs and in adults.

Zidovir (Zidovudine (50mg/5ml)) syrup is used to treat adults and children above 4kgs weight or more than 1 month of age who are infected by HIV-1. Zidovir syrup must be taken in combination with other anti-HIV medicines. Your doctor will discuss which combination of medicines is best for you. Zidovir syrup can be cautiously used in case of pregnancy because it prevents maternal fetal transmission of HIV.

Zidovir (Zidovudine (50mg/5ml)) syrup can be safely taken with any type of food, if doubts arise kindly refer to your physician. Caffeine decreases the excretion of medicine thus should not be used. Zidovir syrup generally causes side effects thus it is advised not to be taken with alcohol.
